This is the greatest pool known to man!
You pick sixteen teams, one for each seed ranking.
This means you get a balanced roster of favourites and upset-makers.
You don't need to know anything to win - seriously.
Cases in point: we have 2 random, non-human top-five finishers in our history books. In 2010, a blackbird won the whole thing, and in 2005, a squirrel finished top-5!
Round 1: 1 point
Round 2: 2 points
Round 3: 4 points
Round 4: 8 points
Round 5 (semifinal): 18 points
National championship game: 24 points
Therefore a team that wins the championship is worth a minimum of 1+2+4+8+18+24=57 points. And then there are bonuses:
A team that beats a higher-seeded team and get the seed differential in bonus points (i.e.
A 13 beating a 4 seed gets 13-4 = 9 bonus points).
This bonus is earned regardless of the round in which the upset occurs.
Beat a 1-seed at any point and get 5 extra bonus points
Beat a 2-seed at any point and get 3 extra bonus points
This bonus can be earned regardless of in which round the win takes place, or
the seeding of the winning team
This enhancement is meant to recognize that an 8 beating a 1 is a bigger upset
than a 12 beating a 5
When you sign up you have an option to put $15 on the pool. The payouts are:
Winner: 60%
2nd place: 30%
3rd place: 10%
Last place: gets his $15 back
*If there is a tie, the money for the tied positions will be pooled and split
golf-tourney style (As per Hogel ruling 3/15/2005)
